The Piranha Award
Each year, we present one of our most meaningful honors: The Piranha Award. This is not necessarily given to the fastest swimmer, but to the one who most fully embodies what it means to be an Oak Park Piranha — in the water, on the deck, and out in the world.
Piranhas are, above all, kind. They treat teammates, coaches, opponents, and volunteers with respect and encouragement. They show up prepared, they listen, they set personal goals, and they work hard to improve both technique and confidence.
This swimmer leads not by volume but by example — jumping in to help when needed, supporting teammates, and celebrating others’ achievements with a genuine heart. They model true sportsmanship, staying positive and lifting others up, whether it’s in the middle of a close race or cheering from the side of the pool.
The Piranha Award recognizes a swimmer who is always growing — not just in swimming ability, but in character, leadership, and compassion.
They represent the best of what it means to be on this team — and we’re proud to celebrate them.
Sophie brings quiet leadership, deep kindness, and a natural connection with younger swimmers to everything she does. She constantly works to improve herself while always making time to lift others up — offering guidance, encouragement, and a contagious love for the sport. Sophie truly embodies what it means to be an Oak Park Piranha.
Charlie brought determination and focus to every practice, always striving to be the best Piranha he could be. He’s the embodiment of what hard work, consistency, and challenging yourself can accomplish. Charlie’s drive and dedication set an inspiring example for everyone on the team.
Davis is, above all, kind — the kind of teammate who makes everyone feel seen and supported. He knew swimmers by name, showed up consistently at meets to cheer them on, and was a true champion for others. Davis embodies the spirit of the Piranha Award through his genuine care, encouragement, and unwavering positivity.
Grady stepped into a true leadership role this season, bringing both kindness and expertise to every practice and meet. He encouraged swimmers of all ages, offered guidance when needed, and led by example in and out of the pool. Grady’s calm confidence and team-first spirit made a lasting impact — the kind of Piranha we’re proud to celebrate.
John truly put in the work this season — always pushing himself to improve, even when it wasn’t easy. He took on challenges with determination and never lost sight of what matters most: being kind, supportive, and respectful to everyone around him. John is a powerful example of dedication, growth, and heart — everything the Piranha Award stands for.
Connor showed up day after day, ready to work and grow. He pushed himself to improve while always staying kind and encouraging to those around him. A steady presence on deck, Connor was a quiet role model for our younger swimmers — leading by example and showing what it means to be a true Piranha.
Emma is the heart of what it means to be an Oak Park Piranha. She is always kind to everyone, leads with quiet strength, and steps up wherever she’s needed — whether that’s helping a younger swimmer or cheering on a teammate. Emma leads both in the water and on the deck, and we’re so proud to honor her with this year’s Piranha Award.
