Results OPK vs. BHR
Greetings Piranha Parents!
Congratulations to our Piranhas on their first win of the season! The final score last night was Oak Park - 358, Black Horse Run - 147. Individual results can be found here and are posted in SwimTopia.
We had some amazing swimming last night with TWO new Team Records! The new Team Records are:
- 8 & U Boys 100-meter Medley Relay (Pearson Ethridge, Raleigh Barlow, Huntley Castellow, Luca Dart) with a time of 1:58.08
- Mason Livengood | 11-12 Boys 50-meter Butterfly | 36.39
Also, congratulations to Presley Lynch, Charlotte Smith, Margo McQuiggan, and Emeline Swenson for setting a Team Record last week of 2:34.07 in the 13-14 Girls 200-meter Medley Relay at LifeTime Fitness!
Each week the coaches honor swimmers for Sportsmanship and Cheering as well as someone who focused on the goal of the week. This week’s goal was Breathing. This week’s winners are:
Sportsmanship - Mason Livengood
Mason, after finishing his race, was waiting on another swimmer to finish. Mason asked a BHR timer what their swimmers name was (while staying in the water!) so he could cheer for that swimmer as he was finishing.
Cheering - Rachel deBlois
Rachel, during the free relays, not only was cheering for our team with gusto, but after our team finished, Rachel was the only OPK swimmer who was still cheering for and following the progress of the other teams relay.
Breathing - Luke Weischedel
Luke kicked off his freestyle race with a great breakout stroke and straight into swimming without breathing off the wall and he did not breathe in from the flags on his finish!
Congratulations to our high point scorers last night who each won 3 individual events and were on 2 winning relay teams:
- Drew Gospodarek - 9/10 Girls
- Mason Livengood - 11/12 Boys
- Olivia McMillan - 11/12 Girls
- Brady March - 13/14 Boys
- June Gospodarek - 13/14 Girls
Parent volunteers are essential for a smooth meet! Our Volunteer of the Week is Thomas Barlow, who served as our Order of Finish Judge last night. The OoF Judge collaborates with the other team’s judge to determine in what order the swimmers finished for every main event. We appreciate Thomas’ willingness to serve however was needed and his flexibility! We also want to give a shout out to our concessions crew! Katie Ethridge works hard to make sure we have a good selection and great service to our families and guests. The crew last night kept things running smoothly and was able to get set up quickly thanks to the helping hands of Jeff Butts! Many thanks to all volunteers!
Our next meet is at home versus Summerfield North next Tuesday, June 25, at 6:00 pm. Please make sure you have declared your swimmers’ attendance in SwimTopia by Saturday evening.
With Piranha Pride,
Kathy
